Brisbane Registry Wedding Planning: How to Keep It Stress-Free

If you’re planning a Brisbane Registry Office Wedding, first of all, congratulations! Registry weddings are a beautiful, low-fuss way to celebrate your love, and I’ve photographed over 100 of them right here in Brisbane.

Brisbane Registry wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little guidance and the right timeline, your day can be simple and joyful.

Whether you’re keeping things intimate or just want to skip the big production, here’s a stress-free guide to planning your day (with a few bonus tips from someone who knows the Registry inside and out).

1. Lock in Your Ceremony Date

Start by visiting the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. You’ll need to:

  • Choose a date and time
  • Fill out a Notice of Intended Marriage (at least one month in advance)
  • Provide ID and supporting documents

Once your paperwork is sorted, you’ll be booked in! Ceremonies are held at Level 32, 180 Ann Street, right in the heart of Brisbane.

2. Decide Who’s Coming

Registry weddings are perfect for:

  • Just the two of you (plus two witnesses)
  • A small circle of family and friends
  • A short ceremony followed by a relaxed lunch or dinner

Remember: the ceremony room is compact, so keep your guest list intimate. If you’d like more guests, Room 2 is slightly larger and worth requesting.

3. Choose What to Wear

There are no rules here—some couples dress to the nines, while others keep it casual. Whether you’re wearing a wedding gown, a fun jumpsuit, or something that makes you feel like you, the most important thing is that you’re comfortable and confident.

Hot tip: Bring comfy shoes for your photo walk afterwards (and maybe a little umbrella—just in case!).

4. Plan for Photos

Your registry ceremony will be short—just 5 to 10 minutes—so I recommend booking at least 1 hour of photography. That gives us time to:

  • Capture your arrival and ceremony
  • Get some beautiful portraits of the two of you afterwards
  • Include your guests in some relaxed group photos if you’d like

5. Keep the Celebrations Going

Even if you’re not having a traditional reception, there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate:

  • A champagne picnic at the Botanic Gardens
  • A riverside lunch with your closest friends
  • Cocktails at Howard Smith Wharves

It doesn’t have to be elaborate—just meaningful.

6. Work With Vendors Who “Get” Small Weddings

I’ve been photographing weddings for over 20 years, and I love how personal and relaxed registry weddings can be. No big production. No stress. Just the two of you doing it your way.

If you’re looking for someone who:

  • Knows the registry process
  • Can suggest the best photo spots
  • Keeps things calm, fun, and low-pressure

—then I’d love to chat with you!
