A wedding is one of the most important days of most people’s lives. We proudly offer Same Sex & LGBTQ Brisbane Wedding Photography and fully support the community. It’s not just a ceremony; it’s the start of something much bigger.
People view marriage as starting a life-long journey with a best friend. Couples face the trials of the world together in sickness and in health. Knowing that no matter what happens or what your detractors may say or do, you always have that special person who has your back.
It’s also a major legal milestone. It impacts your tax status, the responsibilities for your children’s welfare and the management of your assets upon your death. For many, it’s a religious milestone as well. Most would agree that getting married is a fundamental human right.
But before 2017, that basic human right was denied to specific sections of our society. The Marriage Act included the following definition, “the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others voluntarily entered into for life”. This statement essentially made marriage within the LGBTQ community all but impossible. Marriage was not a human right granted to you if you were not a traditional male-female couple.
Fortunately, after decades of campaigning by same sex marriage activists, a vote was put to the Australian public and on the 9th December 2017, the reference to “a man and a woman” was changed in the Marriage Act to “two people”, and marriage was finally legal for all.
As a wedding photographer, I find this all irrelevant, of course. The magic of a wedding day is all about love, friends & family, and a joyful union. And, of course, good light and good angles!
I’ve been shooting same sex and LGBTQ weddings ever since 2017, when they became legal. I had been shooting “same sex weddings” before they became legal, with many couples opting to hold their un-sanctioned weddings regardless of the legal status.
People from all walks of life have been holding unions in one form or another forever. Love is love; commitment is commitment. And thankfully, now that it’s legal, it isn’t any different. We wholly support Same Sex & LGBTQ Brisbane Wedding Photography!
With Leanne J Photography, you know you have a photography team that has always been there shooting LGBTQ weddings.
I love being part of a vibrant event full of love and joy, having been a wedding photographer for two decades, capturing thousands of weddings. I will capture your special moment, the people who mean the most to you in attendance, and make sure you have photos to look back on and smile about for the rest of your lives.
