Why couples love the Brisbane Registry Office

A wedding at the Brisbane Registry is an easy low stress option. Everything is all in one place for your ceremony venue and celebrant, and because you’re indoors, there is no chance of any bad weather spoiling your day. It’s also affordable and yet still offers you a special and heartfelt celebration.

I’ve photographed over 130 weddings at the registry so I know how the day flows, where to find the best local photography spots outside and how to keep the whole experience easy and fun. I love it for couples who are wanting to be intentional about spending the day with their loved ones, whether that’s just you two, or a small group of your nearest family and friends.

And with so many gorgeous spots right outside the door, we can capture the city skyline, stunning parklands and everything in between. If you’re a little camera shy, no worries at all, I like to keep things natural, easy and pressure free so you can just relax and enjoy your day.

Bonus tip: If you’re wanting to elope or have no guests attending, Sean and I are more than happy to act as your witnesses. We’ve done it a lot and love being a part of the moment. Just let me know when you book so I can make sure we’re both free to sign on the day.

Kids can make a wedding day extra special and full of character. There’s something magical about seeing a child holding their parent’s hand as they walk down the aisle, giggling during the ceremony or posing in their cute little outfits.

I love capturing candid details and sweet moments like this. If you are bringing children to your wedding day, I will always make time for some relaxed and natural images of you with them too.

Many of these photos become the most precious of all, as they show your wedding day just as it was, full of love and laughter.

Tips for Your Guests at the Brisbane Registry

brisbane marriage registry office faq's

Indoor Photography: Inside the Brisbane Registry Office are two formal ceremony rooms with simple, elegant décor. Your package includes your ceremony, family and group shots, and portraits.

Post-Ceremony Photography: After your ceremony, there are great opportunities for photos around Brisbane City, including iconic Brisbane spots like the Brisbane City Hall or the Brisbane Botanic Gardens.

While the Brisbane Marriage Registry Office is open to professional photographers, there are certain restrictions:

Time Limit: Your ceremony will take approximately 10 minutes, and you will have the room for 30 minutes.

No Photos: Photography is restricted and enforced within the building, except for the Brisbane Registry Office on level 32. Security is located in the foyer of the building, and they will approach visitors if phones and camera equipment are being used.

Witnesses: You need 2 people to witness your ceremony and sign your marriage certificate. Your witnesses can be family or friends and do not need to be Australian citizens.

They need to be:

  • 18 or older
  • Speak and understand English
  • Be present at the entire ceremony

Please let me know if we can help. Sean and I have witnessed many small weddings, and we are happy to help where we can.

Vows: You can write your own vows or exchange traditional ones.

Readings or Music: You can also request specific readings or music, though options may be limited due to time limits.

If you want to walk into the ceremony room with music playing, the Registry Office advises having your Spotify playlist ready and in the order you want it played.

There is a setup to plug your phone into, and the staff will be on hand to assist.

You do need to have a guest press play for the music. Sean and I are happy to help with this, too.

Please be sure to discuss any personal requests with the registry office when booking to make sure they can accommodate your needs.

Yes, non-Australian citizens can get married at the Brisbane Marriage Registry Office. You need to bring the necessary documents, including passports and proof of the end of any previous marriages (if applicable).

It’s recommended that you book your ceremony at least one month in advance to allow for the processing of documents and securing a date that works for you. However, the office can accommodate some last-minute bookings, depending on availability.
